Professionally, Revocatus Machunda (PhD) is an Environmental Scientist. He has a background in Chemistry and Applied Microbiology. He has over 19 years of experience working as an academic staff at higher Institution of learning. Since 2011 he has been training and supervising graduate students and mentoring junior researchers.
His areas of interest lie in the fields of Environmental Chemistry, Toxicology, degradation of materials and Instrumentation and analytical chemistry. His current research is in the areas of water purification (the chemistry and microbial aspects), renewable energy in the form of Biogas and Sanitation (Mapping of Sanitation facilities, developing shit flow diagrams to that end and resource recovery from fecal sludge).
He has over the years worked to characterize biomasses for various applications including energy, activated carbons and catalysis.
He is also working on value addition to waste materials for various applications especially plant biomasses such as sisal; biomass derived activated carbons among others. He has worked on quantifying the environmental impacts of pesticides and other geogenic chemicals to the health of workers in specific farms and the environment. He has received several grants funded by EU, DFID, COSTECH and DANIDA.
He has also worked on the quantification and profiling of sanitation workers. He has published over 100 journal papers, book chapters and has two patents on defluoridation technology and Biogas burner manifold assembly
